Europa Lounge, a club that needs no introduction on the streets of Sunnyside Pretoria, has landed in hot water after the National Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) found the establishment’s promo misusing the student aider’s name.

EUROPA LOUNGE IN PRETORIA IN TROUBLE FOR PROMO

TONIGHT, 1 March is ‘Student Night Wednesday’ under the theme; ‘ NSFAS INGENILE’ at Europa lounge, if the poster is anything to go by.

The event simply promotes the attendance of students whose NSFAS payments have cleared on their banks to go out and indulge in the ridiculously discounted alcoholic beverages for the night.

However, this promo did not sit well with the student funder.

NSFAS RELEASES A STATEMENT CONDEMNING THE AD

In a statement, the student funding body lambasted and threatened legal action against the establishment.

“The National Financial Aid Scheme has been made aware of the disturbing advertising stunt by the establishment named Europa Lounge in Pretoria, Gauteng. The establishment is offering discounted prices on alcohol beverages to students using the tagline ‘NSFAS INGENILE’,” the Body said.

“The National Financial Aid Scheme condemns this act in its strongest form. This reckless behaviour not only perpetuates undue use of the NSFAS allowance by its beneficiaries, however, it also counters the efforts by the scheme to instil financial responsibility to its beneficiaries,” the student funding body added.

“The entity will be taking the necessary legal steps to ensure that Europa is held accountable.”

THE CORE REASON FOR THE STUDENTS TO BE FUNDED

The student aider clarified that the allowance disbursed to NSFAS beneficiaries is intended to help students from poor backgrounds with food, transport (where necessary), learning material and other living expenses.

The student national funder also elaborated on how it plans to monitor purchase trends by beneficiaries.

“Through the new direct payment system (NSFAS Bank Account), The National Financial Aid Scheme seeks to track and monitor student purchase trends, with the aim of putting measures in place to ensure that allowances are spent accordingly,” the student funder concluded.
