A number of roads and bridges have washed away or collapsed in KZN. Here’s a list of roads you should avoid in and around eThekwini.

The eThekwini Municipality has provided a list of roads and areas motorists should avoid as torrential rains continue to pour in KwaZulu-Natal (KZN).
A number of roads and bridges have reportedly washed away while others are filled with sand.
As of 09:30 on Sunday, 22 May, these are roads you need to avoid in the eThekwini Municipality:
The eThekwini Municipality has urged residents to exercise extreme caution on the roads .
“A South African Weather Service Red (Level 10) warning remains in effect. Forecast models show moderate to high rainfall is expected between 06H00 and 10H00 today. Higher intensity is expected from approximately 08H00 over the Central and Northern regions. Moderate to low rainfall is expected to continue until 20H00.
“There is a high probability of localised flooding of vulnerable areas and landslides within the municipality. Residents and drivers are requested to exercise extreme caution.”

On Saturday evening, Metro Police Search and Rescue, assisted by other emergency services, evacuated 40 elderly people from Westbrook old age home in Tongaat following heavy rainfall which affected the retirement home.
Residents in the South Basin including uMlazi, Wentworth and Isipingo and low-lying areas were also asked to evacuate to safer places.
