The provinces affected by load reduction on Wednesday include KwaZulu-Natal, Free State, North West and Limpopo.

The length of the power outage differs from province to province. However, supply will mostly be disrupted between 17:00 and 22:00.

“Overloading of networks leads to damage to the electricity infrastructure through explosions in overloaded transformers and mini-substations.

“It also poses danger to people and property in the affected communities,” said Eskom.

The power supplier said increased equipment failure is costing millions to repair.
