The reckless use of a gas-powered stove can run the risk of blowing your home up and claiming lives, should an escape plan fails.

ANSWERS FOR LOADSHEDDING OR POWER OUTAGE

Eskom answers what should people do to stay safe during loadshedding or even a power outage.

“Another safety concern is the use of smaller gas stoves that are placed on the electric stove because it is where people are used to doing their cooking,” Eskom cautioned.

“Once the power comes back, the electric stove plate might be on, and it then warms up and the gas explodes. So please do not put gas cookers on top of stoves. Also make sure that heaters and ovens are switched off when loadshedding or power outage starts, especially late at night, if the power goes back on, the heater and stove will switch on again and this could be a fire risk.”

UPDATE ON LOADSHEDDING STAGES TODAY AND TOMORROW

As of Tuesday, 31 January, Eskom has implemented Stage 5 loadshedding from 12 to 9pm, however, Stage 6 will be implemented from then until 5am tomorrow morning, 1 February 2023. This is a result of six generating units that have suffered breakdowns in the last 24 hours.

From then, we will return to Stage 5 continuously from 5am on Wednesday until further notice.
