Power utility Eskom announced that load shedding would be pushed to Stage 6 on Tuesday.

Load shedding moved to Stage 6 from 21:00 following the breakdown of seven generating units.
Stage 6 continued until 05:00 on Wednesday, before returning to Stage 4 until 16:00.

The same pattern of Stage 4 load shedding between 05:00 and 16:00, and then Stage 6 between 16:00 and 05:00 will repeat until further notice, Eskom said.

“Eskom will promptly communicate a further update as soon as there are any significant changes,” it said in a tweet.
“Seven units tripped today, of which three have returned to service. In addition, the return to service of three other units has been delayed. Unit 1 of Matla Power Station will be shut down tonight to repair a boiler tube leak.”

Meanwhile, the City of Cape Town updated it’s schedule for the remainder of the week in reaction to Eskom’s announcement.
City of Cape Town customers are, at the time of publishing, on Stage 3 load shedding which will continue until 16:00 on Wednesday.
Stage 5 will then kick in 16:00 and continue until 22:00 on Wednesday.
Stage 6 will then be in effect 22:00 and 05:00 on Thursday.
The same pattern will repeat until Saturday morning.
