Eskom had previously announced that load shedding would be reduced to Stage 3 over the weekend but that has changed.

Eskom has escalated load shedding to Stage 4 for Saturday, 6 May.
The power utility had announced on Friday, 4 May that it will reduce the rolling blackouts to Stage 3 over the weekend.
The power utility said it will implement Stage 4 due to the further breakdown of generating units in the early hours of Saturday, 6 May.
Furthermore, Eskom said it will publish a further update as soon as there are any significant changes.

Meanwhile, Eskom Chief Operating Officer (COO) Jan Oberholzer who retired at the end of April and was meant to leave the troubled power utility will be staying on for a longer period in a new role.
Oberholzer confirmed that a contract for his services had been agreed upon with Eskom, according to a News24 report.
He is extending his stay with the company to help Eskom through the ongoing load shedding crisis and will reportedly oversee projects that deal with the crisis.
