Power utility Eskom on Saturday confirmed that it is unable to keep the lights on into the new year and that load shedding will continue on Stage 2 until further notice.

Eskom’s load shedding schedule:

Sunday, 1 January

Stage 2 – until further notice

In a tweet, Eskom posted: “Due to the breakdown of five generating units since yesterday afternoon, it is no longer possible to suspend loadshedding at 16:00 today as previously communicated. Stage 2 loadshedding will therefore continue until further notice.”

Meanwhile, the City of Cape Town updated its schedule in reaction to Eskom’s announcement.

At the time of publishing, City of Cape Town customers also on Stage 2 load shedding until 05:00 on Monday at which time Stage 1 will kick in until 22:00 on Monday.

That will be followed by Stage 2 between 22:00 and 05:00 on Tuesday, 3 January.

Stage 2: 05:00-05:00 on Monday

Monday, 2 January
Stage 1: 05:00-22:00
Stage 2: 22:00-05:00 on Tuesday
