Power utility Eskom has confirmed that it is unable to keep the lights on into the new year and that load shedding will continue on Stage 2 until further notice.

In a tweet, Eskom posted: “Due to the breakdown of five generating units since yesterday afternoon, it is no longer possible to suspend loadshedding at 16:00 today as previously communicated. Stage 2 loadshedding will therefore continue until further notice.”

Meanwhile, the City of Cape Town updated its schedule in reaction to Eskom’s announcement.

At the time of publishing, City of Cape Town customers also on Stage 1 load shedding until 22:00 on Tuesday at which time Stage 2 will kick in until 05:00 on Wednesday.
