The Vaal, Soweto and the West Rand will once again be affected by Eskom load reduction on Saturday.

Just a day after the power utility announced that most of the country would get some relief from stage two load shedding, it is not the case for some areas in Gauteng.

This is due to the persistent issue of cable theft and illegal connections, which have caused a strain on the power grid.

Eskom load shedding affected areas

Eskom announced that it will be implementing load reduction from 17:00 to 22:00 in the following areas;

Soweto: Chiawelo, Dlamini, Jabavu, Jabavu Central Western, Jabulani, Mofolo Central, Mofolo North, Mofolo South, Molapo, Molapo, Moroka, Moroka North, Orlando Ekhaya, Orlando West, Pimville Zones 1, 7 and 9, Senoaone and Zondi.

West Rand: Bekkersdal, Kagiso, Rietvallei and Sinqobile.

Vaal: Evaton Central, Evaton West, Evaton North, Lakeside, Sebokeng Zones 3, 7, 8, 10 and 12, Small Farms, Stretford.

Eskom has urged its customers to switch off all appliances during the load reduction process.

“Failure to do so may lead to transformer trips or failures, and damages to household appliances when supply is restored.

Power outages elswehere

The looming batch of Eskom load reduction will not only be confined to Gauteng, with certain suburbs in Mpumalanga also set for a dark, cold evening.

Another notice issued out by the power utility reveals that areas such as Steenbok and Mataffin will experience power cuts between 17:00 to 21:00.

Earlier in the week, the dreaded load shedding had returned for the first time since South Africa went into lockdown.

However, Eskom says it has suspended the rolling blackouts after reaching sufficient generation capacity after over a week of power outages.
