Emfuleni health inspector and wife gunned down in their home

The family of Amos Gumede says it is puzzled and heartbroken about the brutal murder of the Emfuleni chief health inspector and his wife.

Gauteng police have urged anyone with information about the murder of Emfuleni Local Municipality Chief Environmental Health inspector, Amos Gumede and his wife.

The two were shot dead in their home in Boipatong, Vanderbijlpark and their bodies were discovered on Friday morning, 26 May.

HEALTH INSPECTOR AND WIFE GUNNED DOWN

South African Police Service (SAPS) spokesperson in Gauteng, Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi said police attended a complaint where on arrival they found a female victim lying on the floor. Another victim, a man was found inside the house with a gunshot wound.

Nevhuhulwi said one of the rooms in the house was ransacked but there was no indication that anything was stolen.

“The circumstances that led to these gruesome murders are unknown and investigations are underway,” she said.

Police have also urged anyone who may have information about the incident to contact their nearest police stations or the Crime Stop Line at 08600 10111. Anonymous tip-offs can be reported on MySapsApp.

FAMILY PUZZLED ABOUT THE DEATHS

Speaking to Sedibeng Ster the inspector’s brother, Mabuza Gumede said the family is blank and have no idea what could have led to the incident.

“He was a jolly somebody. I have never heard of him fighting with anyone. He was admitted to Hospital on Monday and discharged on Thursday. On Friday morning, we received calls alerting us of what had happened.

“I’m heartbroken. My brother never said anything so we don’t have a clue. We are perplexed. He is my brother and I’m going to miss him because he is my brother. As a family, we hope that justice will be served,” he told the publication.
