The Limpopo police are on the lookout for a 37-year-old woman and her two sons – aged nine and seven – who were last seen at the start of October 2022.

POLICE SEARCHING FOR MISSING MOTHER AND SONS

South African Police Service (SAPS) spokesperson Sergeant Monatse Mamabolo said Elizabeth van der Merwe (nee Smith) was last seen on 27 September at approximately 16:15 when she left her home at a farm about two kilometres head of the Hendrik Verwoerd Tunnels near Louis Trichardt.

Van der Merwe’s sons – Jundre and Reghard – were in the care of the Abraham Kriel Children’s Home in Modimolle.

Social workers alleged that van der Merwe could not be reached to confirm pick-up arrangements for the boys. She was reportedly meant to have an arranged visit – under supervision from the social workers – with her sons at a verified address.

“Allegations suggest that the mother picked up her two sons in Polokwane after they disembarked a bus coming from the children’s home on 1 October 2022 and thereafter departed to an unknown location,” said the police spokesperson.

The police in Makhado is leading the search operation for the mother and children. Members of the public with information are encouraged to contact the investigating officer, Detective Sergeant Tshifhiwa Netsia, at 066-263-4915 or the social worker, Joyce Sadiki at 064-752-1344.
