The newly appointed Electricity Minister, Dr. Kgosientsho Ramokgopa, must be transparent with citizens and provinces on how this plan will resolve the energy crisis urgently.

MINISTER MUST WORK WITH PROVINCES

The Western Cape Premier Alan Winde says they are moving to make their province resilient and independent of Eskom as quickly as possible to allow our economy to flourish.

“As a provincial government, we are ready to work with the newly appointed Minister to address the energy crisis. The Electricity Minister, Dr. Kgosientsho Ramokgopa, must be transparent with citizens and provinces on how this plan will resolve the energy (Eskom) crisis urgently,” said Winde.

The Premier says they want clarity from the Electricity Minister on the energy action plan and how it will be implemented.

THE ELECTRICITY MINISTER MUST BE TRANSPARENT IN HIS PLANS

“Creating a new Cabinet post of Electricity Minister will be an added drain for overstretched taxpayers. In the Western Cape, we focused on bringing in experts to help address the energy crisis, not more political posts.”

Winde says they will continue to work hard to address the energy crisis.

The Premier is disappointed that Police Minister Bheki Cele has retained his post.

Winde says the current Minister has shown no appetite to combat crime or create safer communities across the province. “We will continue to hold the Minister and the police accountable, as they cannot continue to fail the residents of the Western Cape.”
