Elderly woman trapped between boundary wall and home survives cold night

Paramedics said the woman was found lying trapped in a small space between a residence and boundary wall from last night.

A woman in her 60s who was trapped between a wall and a residence survived the cold night.

ER24 ambulance service spokesperson Russel Meiring said the woman was rescued on Saturday morning at around 8.

“The woman became trapped between a wall and residence at her home in Meyerton.”

He said paramedics arrived on the scene shortly before 08hoo to find the Midvaal Fire Services already in attendance.

“On scene, a woman was found lying trapped in a small space between a residence and boundary wall. It is understood that the woman had been trapped from last night.”

After the Midvaal Fire freed the woman, the woman was assessed and found to be suffering from mild hypothermia.

Meiring said the woman was treated by paramedics on the scene and transported to Kopanong Provincial Hospital for further care.

“The details surrounding this incident are not yet known.”

The South African Weather Services said a widespread rainfall of 15 to 35mm is expected over the southern parts of the Western Cape and the south-western parts of the Eastern Cape. 24-hour accumulated rainfall of up to 40 to 50mm is also likely along coastal and adjacent mountainous regions of the eastern Garden Route District of the Western Cape and the south coast and adjacent interior of the Eastern Cape which may result in localised flooding of susceptible areas and roads.

The intense cold front will continue until Sunday evening.

Meanwhile, specialized equipment was used to free the three bodies from the wreck when a bakkie collided with a tree in Bloemfontein on Friday evening. 

SEVERAL EMS SERVICES ATTENDED TO THE HORRIFYING ACCIDENT 

According to Med247 ambulance services, the accident happened around 23:10 on Friday evening in Scholtz Street, Universitas, Bloemfontein. 

“On arrival at the scene paramedics found a single vehicle that had collided with a tree. On further inspection, paramedics found three people in the vehicle entrapped with fatal injuries and were declared dead on the scene.”

Mangaung fire & rescue had to use specialized equipment to free the bodies from the wreck. 

The scene was handed over to Parkweg Police for further investigation.
