Limpopo police have launched a manhunt for two suspects who allegedly tied up an elderly couple and raped their daughter during a house robbery in Madeira.

The incident happened on Friday, 3 February, around 01:15.

ELDERLY COUPLE TIED AND DAUGHTER RAPED

South African Police Service (SAPS) spokesperson in Limpopo, Colonel Malesela Ledwaba, said it is alleged that an elderly couple was sleeping when they were woken up by the sound of a door being forced open.

Two suspects wearing balaclavas entered the room and pointed at the couple with firearms while demanding cash.

Ledwaba said the suspects then tied up the couple and ransacked the house.

“The couple’s 32-year-old daughter came rushing to the bedroom to check on her parents after she heard strange noises coming from their bedroom but was unfortunately grabbed by the suspects, who forced her to give them the safe key belonging to her father.

“After she gave them the safe key, one of the suspects allegedly forced her to the other room where he raped her. During the incident, one shot was fired, but no one was injured,” Ledwaba said.

SUSPECTS STEAL VALUABLES

The suspects reportedly took one firearm and 12 rounds of ammunition from the safe. They also took a laptop and two cellphones and demanded bank cards and pin codes from the couple before they fled the scene.

Fortunately, the victims blocked the cards before the suspects could withdraw the money.

Malesela said police were called to the scene and opened a case of house robbery and rape.

Limpopo Police Commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe appealed to community members to come forward with information that could lead to the apprehension of the suspects.

Police have urged anyone with information to contact the investigating officer Captain Phokane on 079 875 7788, the Crime Stop number 08600 10111, or the nearest police station or use the MySAPS App.
