On Wednesday, 23 March, the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) and its former branch secretary Victor Ramerafe headed to the Dobsonville Police Station. Ramerafe and the EFF opened a criminal case against Operation Dudula leader Nhlanhla Lux.

Operation Dudula members challenge SAPS to arrest Lux

Members of the Dudula Movement spoke out about police interference regarding their leader. They stated that if the SAPS arrests Lux for the raid that happened over the weekend, they should be arrested as well due to their involvement.

The news follows a raid by members of the movement at Ramerefe’s home. The raid was allegedly violent. Patrick Mokgalusi of Operation Dudula reiterated that if Lux were to be arrested, he should not be the only one.

Mokgalusi stated that Lux should not be singled out as members of Operation Dudula were with him.

“They can’t single him out as an individual. We were there with him. Our operations are always led by Lux and if they want to arrest him then why can’t they lay charges against SAPS and the whole leadership of Operation Dudula.”

Mokgalusi was persistent in ensuring the public that the movement was a noble one.

He explained that they identify what he described as ‘hotspots’ with information and approach the relevant station commander. They hand over the information and state that they have identified the area. They then ask the station commander to accompany them so they are able to explain where the ‘problem area’ is.

Will Lux be arrested?

According to EWN, the EFF are under the impression that they and Operation Dudula members are being pitted against each other to create ‘black-on-black’ violence.

There are no confirmations if an arrest warrant had been issued for Lux or if he would be appearing in court any time soon.

EFF vs Dudula: Malema encourages Red Berets to ‘respond with violence’

Economic Freedom Fighters’ Commander in Chief Julius Malema shared a very strong worded tweet. The head of the Red Berets spoke about violence being emitted to members and supporters of the EFF.

Malema stated that members needed to defend themselves. If they’re in a situation where self-defence is needed, they need to triple the force back to their enemies, according to Malema.

Malema’s post gained over 2,900 likes on Twitter in a matter of hours. His replies section quickly filled up with comments from netizens who either supported the EFF or denounced Malema’s words.  Read the full story here.
