The EFF in the City of Ekurhuleni is set to stage pickets at all police stations on the East Rand.

WHY IS THE EFF STAGING PICKETS

In a statement, the EFF Ekurhuleni Region announced these plans with the aim to demonstrate against the rampant cases of Gender-based violence.

“The EFF Ekurhuleni Region will tomorrow 26 July 2022 picket at police stations against the increasingly high levels of violent crimes in the City of Ekurhuleni.”

“Ekurhuleni has the highest number murder rate, 32 per 100 000 in the province affecting women, children and LGBTIQ communities,” the statement read.

It is also reported that the pickets will highlight the ongoing violent crimes against women, children and people living with disabilities, including the scourge of alcohol and drug abuse in their communities.

“We will be demanding a proactive approach to crime prevention from the South African Police Service (SAPS), that includes dedicated GBV desks in police stations to prevent secondary victimisation”.

“Our demands will also include a victim-centred approach to justice, and an update to all unsolved cases of kidnapping, house robbery, murder, sexual assault, and hijacking,”

EFF Ekurhuleni Region chairperson Nkululeko Dunga.

The EFF also calls on all progressive community organisations to join their demand for safer communities.
