Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema was addressing the fourth National Students’ Assembly when he called for free education.

Red Berets leader wants free education for both rich and poor

Malema noted that free education should be for both the poor and rich living in South Africa. The Red Berets head was delivering the keynote address at the EFF’s Students Assembly in Boksburg on Saturday, 23 July.

Malema explained that if free education is offered to only the poor, the richer South Africans will turn to private education. The EFF leader believes that this will add further division between public and private education in the country.

“We must say free education for all, compulsory for all and no private education so that both the rich and the poor learn from the same education and learn the same thing. Confirmation of a divided society – public education and private education. Public means black, private means white,”
