Police: 38-year-old man arrested for allegedly stabbing his mother to death

‘It is sad when a parent’s life is taken away in such a gruesome manner by their own child whom they have protected and nurtured,’ said Acting Nelson Mandela Bay District Police Commissioner Brigadier Thandiswa Kupiso.

The police in the Eastern Cape arrested a 38-year-old suspect for the alleged murder of his mother on Thursday morning, 23 June, in Walmer.

POLICE ARREST SON FOR HIS MOTHER’S MURDER

South African Police Service (SAPS) spokesperson Colonel Priscilla Naidu said members from the Walmer station responded to a complaint of domestic violence at a house in Bhabhatane Street at approximately 11:00.

“On arrival police found the son leaving the premises. He was instructed to open the locked door,” said Naidu.

When the door was opened, the police found the body of an elderly woman lying on the kitchen floor. She had multiple stab wounds.

The deceased was identified as Ntombizana Frans, 64. She shared a home with her son, who was arrested for the alleged murder.

The motive for the murder is yet to be established, said the police spokesperson. However, it is alleged that there was a history of domestic disputes at the home, which the mother never opened cases for.

“Such abuse at the hands of a callous perpetrator must be fought by all and we urge communities not to keep silent, instead to immediately report domestic violence to police. It is sad when a parent’s life is taken away in such a gruesome manner by their own child/children whom they have protected and nurtured.

“The elderly are under great strain and as a society, we all need to play our part in ensuring that they are safe even from their own,” said Acting Nelson Mandela Bay District Commissioner Brigadier Thandiswa Kupiso.

The suspect is expected to appear in the Gqeberha Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 27 June on a murder charge.
