The Buffalo City Metro Municipality has confirmed a suspected drunk driver drove into a wall of a Braelyn traffic department in East London on Monday while the nation was occupied with elections.

CRIMINAL CHARGES LAID ON DRUNK DRIVER

According to the report, the suspect apparently had one too many drinks as early as 11:00 before getting behind the wheel of his Toyota Corolla.

It did not take too long before he was staring into his own mess as a traffic department perimeter wall came tumbling down from his own doing.

In addition to suffering a head wound, the suspect is now facing a serious charge of drunk driving and damaging municipal property. His passengers were reportedly too boozed up to make sense of the chaos.

SUSPECT REJECTS MEDICAL ATTENTION

According to the Buffalo City Metro spokesperson Samkelo Ngwenya, the man was rushed to the Empilweni healthcare centre in Gompo to treat his head wound. It was where he reportedly declined to receive medical care.

“The doctor put that in writing and it is part of the docket,” said Ngwenya.

The drunk driver was soon transferred to the East London police station for a drunk driving charge and destruction of state property.

Meanwhile, Gauteng police arrested a BMW driver for flying at a speed of 216km/h in a 120km/h zone towards Bronkhorstspruit.

Considering the BMW M4 has a maximum speed of 290km/h, the 41-year-old was seemingly not far from clocking the top speed limit of the sports car. Police said the driver was the worst offender among a number of many more arrested motorists.

“It is unfortunate that when we continue with our efforts to save the lives of road users, there are drivers who are hell-bent on violating road traffic rules and regulations,” Police spokesperson Sello Maremane said.
