Durban crash: Boy, 9, discharged from hospital following accident

A nine-year-old boy who sustained critical injuries in a car crash last month has been discharged from hospital.

The nine-year-old boy who sustained critical injuries in a car crash in Durban last month has been discharged from the hospital.

Paramedics responded to the scene of the crash after 23:00 on 31 July

ALS Paramedics previously shared reports from the scene of the accident on 31 July on Alice Street. The accident involving a sports car took place just after 23:00. ALS Paramedics found that the car had crashed into shop fronts on the roadside.

“Paramedics arrived on scene to find carnage. A single luxurious sports vehicle had somehow lost control and crashed into shop fronts on the roadside,”

said ALS Paramedics.

Inside the vehicle, paramedics found three occupants. The driver, who is believed to be the father of the two children and the siblings aged 11 and nine years old were in the vehicle. 11-year-old Dia Nana passed away days after the horrific accident. 

Her nine-year-old brother was found inside the wreckage and sustained critical injuries. IOL reported that the boy is doing well.

Dia Nana: Learner dies week after horrific accident in Durban CBD

Previously, it was reported that Dia Nana, an 11-year-old girl who was critically injured when her father crashed his Porsche in Durban CBD on 30 July has succumbed to her injuries. The 11-year-old was reportedly buried on Sunday, 7 August, while her brother is believed to be recovering in hospital. 

Chelsea Preparatory School where Dia attended said the learner will be sorely missed but will always remain a part of the Chelsea family. The school described Dia as an exuberant, fun-loving young girl who touched everyone’s lives. 

“Dia was an exuberant, fun-loving young girl who touched everyone’s lives. Our heartfelt condolences go out to the Nana family. Today and always, may loving memories bring you peace, comfort, and strength,” the school said.

Paramedics reportedly found that Dia had been ejected from the vehicle on impact. She was in a critical condition and needed Advanced Life Support intervention to stabilise her. She was placed on a manual ventilator before being rushed to a nearby hospital for the urgent care she required. Read the full story here.
