Advocate Gerrie Nel has somewhat signalled doom for Jacob Zuma’s son Duduzane, who faces a charge of culpable homicide, following his involvement in the death of two taxi passengers in 2014.

The businessman previously escaped prosecution, as the National Prosecution Authority (NPA) did not proceed with their case against him as they cited lack of evidence. But earlier this week, it was confirmed that the original decision had been reviewed, and that prosecution would go ahead.

The famous prosecutor – who would know more than a thing or two about sending away a few high-profile individuals – is confident that the State has a strong case against the businessman.

As EWN reports, Nel – now heading lobby group, Afriforum’s private prosecutions – heading lobby group, Afriforum’s private prosecution unit – is chuffed that his organisation got the ball rolling in reviving the case.

“I’m very glad for the family that there’ll b justice after all, and I’m very satisfied that our formal application made it impossible for the NPA to confirm their earlier decision,” he is quoted by the publication.

Afriforum had announced, earlier this year, that they would prosecute Zuma privately.

“When we approached the families last year, they didn’t even know that there was a decision taken not to prosecute Mr Zuma, whereas Mr Zuma was informed immediately on the day the NPA took a decision not to prosecute,” Nel continued.

According to the NPA, Zuma has been summonsed to appear in court and, in the event the fails to do so, a warrant of arrest will be issued against.

He is due to appear at the South Gauteng High Court in Johannesburg on Thursday, 12 July.
