The police in KwaZulu-Natal arrested a 29-year-old man for his alleged involvement in a brutal triple murder in Pietermaritzburg on Monday, 27 June. It is alleged that two of the victims were raped before they were killed.

THREE RELATIVES KILLED BRUTALLY, SAY POLICE

South African Police Service (SAPS) spokesperson Constable Thenjiswa Ngcobo said a male relative was left traumatised after he discovered the dead bodies of three family members lying on the floor of their residence in Dube Drive, Sobantu in Pietermaritzburg.

According to the police, the victims had bruises and strangulation marks on their necks.

“A 65-year-old grandmother was murdered whilst her 46-year-old daughter and granddaughter, aged 8 were allegedly raped and strangled to death,” said Ngcobo.

BLOODSTAINED CLOTHING

The police questioned people in the area as part of the preliminary investigation and received information that led them to the home of the man who was last seen with the victims.

The police were stunned, said the spokesperson, to find the man in bloodstained clothes. He failed to give a satisfactory explanation for the blood and was arrested and charged with three counts of murder and two counts of rape.

The suspect is expected to appear in the Pietermaritzburg Magistrate’s Court imminently.
