“She can die” – SAPS to investigate ‘drunk’ officer for crude behaviour [video]

The lurid actions of a police officer in Midrand have gone viral, after the cop was accused of drinking on the job by a number of eyewitnesses.

A SAPS officer from Midrand, Gauteng is facing the sack after he was recorded during a shift over the weekend, where he appeared to be intoxicated and confrontational. The cop can be seen rooted to the spot, slurring his words and failing to help a mother who is locked away with a child in a jail cell.

The jarring footage surfaced online this week, but SAPS have only confirmed that an investigation is taking place on Wednesday. The circumstances are, at best, bizarre. The pleas from a clearly-distressed inmate are ignored, and not even the sight of a phone camera can coax the cop into doing his job.

A couple who attended the Midrand Police Station asked the officer about his unbecoming behaviour, raising their concerns about the wailing coming from the cells. Callously, the officer simply remarks that the woman “can die”, and he will merely “write a report” on what happened.

The eyewitness at the scene, who has chosen not to reveal their full name, said that “you didn’t need a breathalyser” to realise the officer was drunk. The authorities in Midrand are still trying to verify these claims.

Drunk or not, his conduct is absolutely shocking. The law enforcer continues to speak in non-sequiters before the video comes to an end. Police Spokesperson Brig Mathapelo Peters has since confirmed that the incident is under “urgent investigation”, and implored the person who recorded the clip to contact the police.

“Provincial commissioner Lt-Gen Elias Mawela has sanctioned an urgent internal investigation to establish the facts surrounding the clip. It would help the internal investigation if the person that captured the video could contact management at the Midrand Police Station.”
