You can now apply for a driver’s license and renewals, a temporary driver’s license, as well as pay your traffic fines, at the Gautrain Station in Midrand.

Gauteng Government officially opened the newly constructed Driving License Testing Centre (DLTC) on Thursday.

NEW LICENSING CENTRE AT THE GAUTRAIN STATION

By opening the first DLTC in a Gautrain station, the province will be able to meet the existing demand for license renewals.

The new pilot DLTC which was built using alternative building materials is completely off the grid, guaranteeing customers minimal disruptions and quick, convenient service along the Gautrain line.

In addition to the centre, four new stations are set to be built by the GDRT, the Gautrain Management Agency (GMA) and the Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC) to help alleviate the backlog of driver license renewals in Gauteng.

The new generation centre will offer services such as applications for driver’s licenses and renewals, issuing of temporary driver’s licenses, as well as payment of traffic fines.

“This state of the art facility gives us an opportunity to efficiently deliver licences and other related services to the people. Working together with GMA and RTMC, in just over two months we have delivered this facility,”

said Public Transport and Roads Infrastructure MEC Jacob Mamabolo.

ADDITIONAL CAPACITY CONVENIENT FOR CUSTOMERS

DLTC promises to halve the time it takes for customers to renew their driver’s license cards while on the go by utilising smart technologies.

“This additional capacity will make it more convenient for customers to access services. Last year we introduced two new smart DLTCs at Waterfall Estate, City of Joburg and Eco Park in the City of Tshwane.

“These new generations are the benchmark we are setting ourselves as we look at modernising all our facilities across the province,”

added Mamabolo.

The centre will also provide full online and cashless services as part of the provincial government’s commitment to exploring new technologies and process optimisation.

Furthermore, the centre will be able to service four people at a time.

The newly constructed DLTC at the Gautrain Station in Midrand will operate from 08:00- 17:00 from Monday to Friday and from 09:00- 15:00 on Saturday and Sunday.
