Driver dies after crashing vehicle and landing in a swimming pool

A driver was killed after he reportedly crashed onto a boundary wall and landed in a swimming pool in Amanzimtoti on Friday.

A driver has died after he reportedly crashed through a residential boundary wall and landed in a swimming pool on Monmouth Road in Athlone Park, Amanzimtoti, KwaZulu-Natal.

The incident happened at approximately 11:00 on Friday, 2 September. 

DRIVER DIES AFTER LANDING IN SWIMMING POOL

According to emergency service, Emer-G-Med, on arrival at the scene a light motor vehicle was found to have crashed through a residential boundary wall, overturning and landing in a swimming pool.

Paramedics found the occupant still entrapped in the wreckage and a call was made by the Emer-G-Med Emergency Operations Centre for the specialist assistance of the South African Police Services Search and Rescue Unit. 

Emer-G-Med spokesperson, Kyle Van Reenen said once freed, further assessment revealed the man to show no signs of life and he was declared dead on the scene.

“The cause of the collision and the events preceding it are unclear and will form the subject of a South African Police Services investigation,” he said.

Meanwhile, another driver recently died in Westville also in KwaZulu-Natal on Wednesday 10 August after first responders found his vehicle submerged in a swimming pool.

Redline Response spokesperson Derrick Banks said paramedics received a call at approximately 6:30 on Wednesday and when they arrived at the property in Baden Road, they found a vehicle lying on its roof in a swimming pool.

The driver of the vehicle, a man believed to be in his early forties, was found dead inside it; it is unclear how long the car was in the water. Neighbouring residents said they may have heard a noise at approximately 00:30 but didn’t see anything, according to the Redline Response spokesperson.

Local metro police and South African Police Service (SAPS) members were at the scene and the circumstances that led to the fatal accident are under investigation.
