A pedestrian made a grisly discovery on Monday morning, 11 July, in the Eastern Cape. The bodies of an unidentified murdered couple were found in Greenbushes near the N2 highway.

MURDER VICTIMS FOUND BY PEDESTRIAN

South African Police Service (SAPS) spokesperson, Captain Sandra Janse van Rensburg, said the pedestrian found the bodies at 9:00 and alerted the authorities.

“On arrival, an unknown male was found sitting in front of a tree with his neck tied to the tree.  A second body, a female was found about 5 meters away,” said Janse van Rensburg.

The woman was lying face down and both bodies were in the early stages of decomposition. The victims are believed to be aged between 20 and 35 years old.

Autopsies will be conducted on both victims to determine the exact cause of death; however, detectives from the Kabega Park police station are investigating two cases of murder.

Members of the public with information that can assist the investigation or if they know the victims’ next of kin are encouraged to contact the investigating officer Detective Lieutenant-Colonel Rio Kriel at 041-397-6867 or Crime Stop at 08600-10111.
