Their uncle, Mpho Chosen Makofane, said their family is broken.

“We are broken as a family because we never thought that something like this would happen to us.

“We haven’t heard anything from the police, and we went to inquire at the forensic about the post mortem result. We were informed that they would get back to us once they had received the results from the lab in Pretoria,” he said.

WHEN WILL THE POST MORTEM RESULT BE REVEALED?

Makofane said that waiting for the results and not knowing what happened to his beloved niece and nephew is taking a toll on them.

“The wait is definitely taking a lot out of us. Hopefully, we will get the results soon and take the necessary steps moving forward,” he said.

He added that his distraught family is not in a position to share details about the brand of the noodles yet but said this would be revealed once they have received the post mortem results.

“My advice at this moment is that parents should avoid giving their children noddles until the results are out,” Makofane said.

Tissue samples of both children were taken and sent to the police’s forensic laboratory in Pretoria.

Police spokesperson Constable Busisiwe Mthethwa said police are investigating the matter and are still awaiting the post mortem results on Friday.

Makofane said his niece and nephew are missed.

“They loved each other a lot, and they shared everything together,” he said.

Little Thato had dreams of becoming a doctor, while Keamogetswe wanted to be a farmer.

Meanwhile, police in the Eastern Cape are also still awaiting the post mortem results of three children, including a four-month-old baby boy, who died earlier this month after eating a packet of noodles.

Police could not yet confirm if there is a link to these children’s deaths, and nor could they disclose the brand of the noodles.

THE BRAND OF THE NOODLES ARE NOT YET KNOWN

Ngwendu (11), Olwam Ngwendu (7), and four-month-old Athenkosi Ngwendu died on 7 November died shortly after each other.

Sinothando Ngwendu is a cousin Olwam and Athenkosi Ngwendu.

“It is alleged that on Saturday, 6 November 2021, the three children accompanied their grandparents on a visit to relatives in New Brighton.

NO NEW INFORMATION ON THE EASTERN CAPE THREE SIBLINGS

It is believed the girl cooked the packet of noodles, and the children ate it before leaving to go back to Motherwell.

Naidu said all three children allegedly ate from the same packet of noodles.

“When the children arrived home in Motherwell, Sinothando complained of feeling nauseous. Her grandmother gave her some water to drink.

“Olwam also complained of stomach cramps and nausea. While being driven with private transport to the Motherwell clinic, they passed away,” said Naidu.

Shortly after Sinothando and Olwam were taken to the hospital, the baby also passed away while en route to a hospital in another vehicle.
