Disgruntled municipal workers in the Ditsobotla Local Municipality in North West have apparently sabotaged job seekers after they took their frustrations on CVs and certified documents.

MUNICIPAL WORKERS TAKE ON DITSOBOTLA

Yesterday, Wednesday, 4 January, the employees caused a scene by disposing off the documents, understood to be applicants’ CVs among other documents, as a way to vent their grievances.

The MEC for Cooperate Governance, Human Settlement and Traditional Affairs, Nono Maloyi has since condemned this act of mayhem.

In a statement, Maloyi condemned the incident in the strongest possible terms, an incident in Ditsobotla in which documents belonging to the municipality were destroyed and disposed off on the streets of Lichtenburg in the morning.

CVS AND CERTIFIED SUPPORTING DOCUMENTS AMONG STREWN PAPERS

It is alleged that a group of contract workers whose contracts were terminated reported for duty in the morning and went on a rampage and trashed official documents which they collected from municipal offices. Official documents could be seen strewn on the streets in Lichtenburg town.

MEC CALLS FOR STRICTER SECURITY MEASURES AT MUNICIPAL OFFICES

MEC Maloyi said it is unfortunate that the workers reacted in that manner and has called for stricter security measures to be put in place in all municipal buildings.

“We will not tolerate this behaviour, be it from officials, councillors nor members of the public.”

He added: “ We will bring in law enforcement agencies to enforce law and order in Ditsobotla, when necessary”.

Locals have weighed in on the mayhem, some reducing the municipality to a circus.

Lethoko Kabelo said: “Where’s security that’s paid without fail when all this happens? Who’s in charge of the municipality right now? Doesn’t he see the need for law enforcement? Unless this is a planned move. . . Those in charge must begin to act. Also, pay everyone to avoid such happening”.

Orapeleng Moatlhodi said: “I think this municipality should be disbanded and work under province finish and klaar! We are tired of this circus”.

DeWet Momberg said: “As long as there is no prosecution it will continue until there is nothing left… Oh wait, THERE IS NOTHING left. Where are the people who [ruined] Bandjies street the day before the elections? Who are the people who gave the orders? They should be criminally prosecuted and held liable”.
