The Democratic Alliance (DA) is currently drawing up an urgent request to Eskom management in terms of the Promotion of Access to Information Act (PAIA).

The party said that the purpose of this request is to obtain all information and evidence at Eskom’s disposal regarding the alleged ANC kingpin behind the systemic corruption that has brought our country’s electricity supply to its knees.

ANDRE DE RUYTER MAKES STARTLING REVELATIONS

The move comes after outgoing Eskom CEO Andre de Ruyter made startling revelations about alleged government interference at the power utility during a televised interview with eTV’s Annika Larsen on Tuesday, 21 February.

De Ruyter said he did not believe the government had the political will to end corruption within the power utility.

He added that evidence suggested that the power utility is a feeding trough for the ANC.

De Ruyter mentioned that he informed a senior cabinet minister about a plot involving a “high-level politician” to steal from the $8.5 billion fund meant to ensure a just energy transition.

DA TO SUBMIT PAIA request

“In the interests of accountability, transparency and combating the ANC corruption that has caused the load-shedding crisis, the DA’s PAIA request will compel Eskom management to not only make public the name of the senior ANC politician concerned, but to hand over all information and evidence at their disposal regarding the ANC’s involvement in corruption at Eskom.

“The DA calls on Eskom management to comply with our PAIA request so that the people of South Africa may finally know the full truth about the ANC puppet masters behind the collapse of Eskom,” said DA leader John Steenhuisen.

ESKOM BOARD SHOWS DE RUYTER THE DOOR

Eskom announced that Andre de Ruyter would immediately vacate his office after a special board meeting on Wednesday, 22 February.

De Ruyter resigned in December 2022 but agreed to stay on until 31 March 2023.

However, at the meeting between the Eskom board and CEO on Wednesday, it was decided by mutual consent that his notice period would be cut to 28 February 2023.
