DA makes it a hat-trick as Her

Following today’s inaugural Johannesburg council meeting, the DA took the positions of speaker, whip, and mayor of Africa’s economic powerhouse.

The DA’s Vasco da Gama took the position of Speaker of the Johannesburg City Council, the party’s Herman Mashaba became mayor and finally, the party’s Kevin Wax took the position of chief whip.

The day got off to a rocky start after the EFF caused a bit of a ruckus when spokesperson Mbuyiseni Ndlozi claimed that the ANC had tried to buy votes by offering hundreds of thousands of Rands to EFF councillors.

Not long after that, the red berets went at it again, this time when one of their councillors flashed his ballot paper, which prompted the IEC to act, reminding all present that it is a secret ballot and you aren’t allowed to display who you voted for.

Then, just as councillors prepared to vote for whip and mayor, an ANC councillor collapsed and died…

Finally, however, the EFF delivered on its promise to vote the DA into power in Jozi, as they have done in Nelson Mandela Bay and Tshwane. The Democratic alliance now controls four of South Africa’s largest metros, including both capital cities.
