Shivambu can’t seem to be able to rest his Twitter fingers.

The one thing Eskom needed was some form of reparative, practical response from President Cyril Ramaphosa. Indeed, he did just that and appointed a new task team to oversee the mess the power utility had found itself in. Floyd Shivambu, however, took up an issue with the selection and in his frustration, blasted an energy expert for criticising his party’s response to the news.

EFF criticism of Ramaphosa’s Eskom task team

The deputy president of the EFF blasted energy expert, Chris Yelland, on Twitter, on Wednesday, for his criticisms of the party’s response to Ramaphosa’s selection of the task team.

The task team is made up of Professor Anton Eberhard, Dr Tsakani Mthombeni, Sy Gourrah, an electrical engineer, Dr Grovè Steyn, an infrastructure and regulatory economist, former NUM secretary-general, Frans Baleni, mining magnate, Sir Mick Davis and the senior researcher from CSIR, Busisiwe Vilakazi.

These great minds will be responsible for overturning the turmoil Eskom finds itself in.

However, the EFF does not agree with this decision, as it believes that the task team will render the power utility’s board useless and redundant.

“The appointment of this team is equal to setting up a parallel board; which will effectively render the board and management useless and redundant. If Ramaphosa did not have confidence in the current board and management, he should have dissolved them.

“It is our view that the recent episodes of load shedding were staged in a deliberate attempt intended to rationalize the appointment of this parallel board,” the EFF noted in a statement.

Floyd Shivambu blasts energy expert on Twitter

Yelland, quoted in Briefly, charged at the EFF for making false claims about the task team.

“Personally, I think the EFF is running scared because there are people with great integrity on this team,” the energy expert stated.

This sent Shivambu into a meltdown and he responded to Yelland on Twitter, calling him and others “Ramaphosa’s white sycophants”.

Shivambu lamented on how Yelland’s inability to know that having Brian Dames, the CEO of African Rainbow Energy as part of the task team was a conflict of interest.

However, Dames himself, stepped down from the task team for this reason as it was abundantly clear to everyone that this was, indeed, a case of conflict of interest.
