Cyril Ramaphosa will lead SA in the World Economic Forum on Africa

Delegates from across the globe will descend to Cape Town for the Forum.

President Cyril Ramaphosa will lead the South African representatives, in the World Economic Forum on Africa (WEFA) which is scheduled for Wednesday, 4 September 2019 at the Cape Town International Convention Centre.

The Forum will take a look into the progress of 4IR

The theme of the Forum is: “shaping inclusive growth and shared futures in the fourth industrial revolution”. South Africa is expecting to host global delegates, heads of state, business leaders and civil society. The attendees will participate and share best practices on inclusive ways to grow economies.

“South Africa is once again honoured to host this globally important gathering and we look forward to learning from partners and counterparts, how best to achieve inclusive and sustainable growth that creates employment and enables us to improve the living conditions of all South Africans.”

The Forum will look into initiatives to empower South Africans

The presidency understands the urgency of creating employment opportunities as well as initiatives that will empower young people. The Forum will showcase a range of programmes, and the proactive actions taken by the presidency to reduce unemployment, poverty, and inequality.

The forum will end of Friday, 6 September and Ramaphosa’s representatives will compromise of: The Deputy President David Mabuza, the Ministers of Finance; Health; Trade and Industry; Small Business Development; International Relations and Cooperation; Human Settlements; Higher Education and Training; Communications and Digital Technologies; Transport; Public Works and Infrastructure; Environment, Forestry and Fisheries and Public Enterprises.

“The Forum is a platform for South Africa to profile how the country has embraced the opportunities presented by the Fourth Industrial Revolution, and has begun to prepare for challenges arising from the interplay between technology and people. We will also learn from countries that have excelled in using technology and the Fourth Industrial Revolution to advance their economies.”

The Forum will also look into promoting female leadership

The Forum will also discuss a wide range of issues including the future of state-owned enterprises, promoting female leadership, infrastructure, investing in mental health and achieving universal health coverage and reskilling workers for the Fourth Industrial Revolution.

The presidency will also highlight how it is restructuring state-owned enterprises to propel them into growing the economy and cultivating an environment for trade and investment. As the African development agenda that was solidified in recent G7 bilateral talks will accumulate GDP of $3 trillion into Africa. The Africa Continental Free Trade Area Agreement was established recently and is recorded to be the largest in the world as it includes 55 countries, and gathers 1.2 billion people.

South Africa’s official objectives for WEFA 2019 are :

  • To align South Africa as a destination of choice with a large presence of successful domestic and multinational investors.
  • These tourists and citizens alike will benefit from the country’s location, infrastructure and logistics.
  • Profile investment opportunities in diverse sectors of South Africa’s economy.
  • Digital expansion of innovations and technologies through the continent.
