This Thursday, 25 July 2019, President Cyril Ramaphosa is set to oversee the signing of the Presidential Health Compact, in Ga-Runkuwa Tshwane.

Why is this happening?

The compact is aimed at developing and improving the quality of the healthcare system in South Africa. In the 2018 Presidential Health Summit, key stakeholders and the government were in unison regarding the development of a Presidential Health Summit Compact.

What is this health compact?

This compact is set to improve the quality of the industry, mainly focusing on predominant issues in the sector such as staff shortages, infrastructure, corruption and stock-outs of medicine.

Where will the signing happen?

The president will grace South Africans at the signing ceremony, which will take place at the Dr George Mukhari Academic Hospital in Ga-Rankuwa, Tshwane.

“In recent months, government, civil society, labour, health services users, business, private providers, academia, statutory councils, professionals and allied health workers held consultations with their respective constituencies and developed a plan that includes clear objectives, methods, timelines, indicators and financial resources to effectively address challenges in these institutions”
