Cyril Ramaphosa finds his voice and backs Pravin Gordhan

Things are getting real.

Cyril Ramaphosa finds his voic

It’s been a weekend of all sorts of madness and deputy president Cyril Ramaphosa added to the political power shuffle on Sunday when he issued a statement in which he backs Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan.

Gordhan was summoned to court last week, over the so-called SARS rogue unit, something which Ramaphosa says should “be of concern to many South Africans across all sectors of society.”

He added that as a member of the National Executive, he supports Gordhan as he faces charges brought against him by the National Prosecuting Authority.

The statement adds that the current turmoil the country finds itself in requires all South Africans to demonstrate unity in defence of constitutional values, and the objective of setting South Africa on a path of sustainable and inclusive economic growth.

Ramaphosa’s statement also follows after Gordhan filed  court papers that contain details of “suspicious” bank transactions by Gupta-owned companies totalling almost R7bn.
