Several SA companies have pledged their support for the mandatory vaccine policy as from 2022.

Rising COVID-19 infections are hinting that the dreaded fourth wave is coming close by. A Western Cape expert has confirmed noting early signs of newly high cases in the province.

COVID-19: IS THE FOURTH WAVE UNSTOPPABLE NOW?

As The South African reported on Wednesday, South Africa recorded more than 8500 new COVID-19 cases on Wednesday, 1 December, according to the National Institute of Communicable Diseases (NICD).

From the given figure, 6% (or 262 cases) were recorded in the Western Cape. According to the message Dr Keith Cloete sent to the legislature’s ad-hoc committee on Covid-19, the province has shown early signs of a developing fourth wave.

“The province is seeing clear increases in the number of daily new cases, with on average more than 100 new diagnoses per day, and that the proportion positive has increased to an average of 5.1%,” the provincial head said of the threatening COVID-19 fourth wave.

“Overall there is a 111% week-on-week increase in cases in the Metro, with most sub-districts starting to see increases, particularly the northern, southern, and western one, including Klipfontein,” he said.

MZANSI SHOWS SHARP COVID-19 CASES RISE

South Africa recorded more than 8500 new COVID-19 cases on Wednesday, 1 December, according to the National Institute of Communicable Diseases (NICD). The 51 977 tests conducted over the past 24 hours represent a positivity rate of 16,5 percent up from yesterday’s 10,2 percent. Gauteng remains the most affected province.

The 8561 new COVID-19 cases detected in South Africa on Wednesday brings the total number of active cases in the country to 36 600. Unfortunately, 28 more people died of COVID-19-related complications, according to the NICD, bringing the death toll to 89 871.

There were 135 people admitted to hospital for COVID-19 treatment within the latest testing cycle. The 258 private and 407 public hospitals reporting to the NICD now have 2550 patients admitted.
