Thabo Bester 2.0: Husband who ‘burned to death’ arrested for driving stolen car
Another Thabo Bester? A couple has been arrested after the husband who burned to death in a house fire was arrested for driving a stolen car.

A married couple from Tshwane in Gauteng has been arrested after it was discovered that the husband who burned to death was arrested while driving a stolen car.
Sibusiso Mahlangu from Soshanguve was presumed dead after he burnt to death in a house fire in 2022.
HUSBAND WHO “BURNT TO DEATH” ARRESTED
According to News24, Mahlangu and his wife Lerato from Soshanguve have been charged with murder, defeating the ends of justice and fraud.
Police are also reportedly working on establishing who was buried in Mahlangu’s place, however there are suspicions that the body buried could be that of Lerato’s ex-boyfriend, Sibusiso Sithebe who is also the father of her daughter, News24 reported.
According to a family member, Sibusiso Sithebe was reported missing on 1 January 2022 after he and his new girlfriend had celebrated their child’s birthday party.
Sithebe’s girlfriend notified the family after Sithebe did not return from a job in Hammanskraal. The family then opened a missing person’s case.

After a year since Sithebe’s death, his sister received a call from the police and was shown pictures of a burnt house and that of her brother which was burnt from the waist up.
The story sounds familiar to that of convicted rapist and murderer Thabo Bester who faked his death at the Mangaung Correctional Centre when it was believed that he died when his cell caught fire. It was later discovered that Bester had escaped prison with the aid of his alleged lover Dr Nandipha Magudumana. He has since been arrested and five other people have been arrested too for aiding him.

COUPLE EXPECTED TO APPEAR IN COURT
National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) spokesperson in Gauteng, Lumka Mahanjana, told News24 that the husband allegedly killed Sithebe at their RDP house and thereafter burnt the house with the body of the deceased inside.
Mahanja said the wife falsely claimed that the burned dead body was that of her husband and registered his death at the Department of Home Affairs and got a fake death certificate whereas she knew that her husband was alive and buried the wrong person knowingly. She also claimed money for policies
The couple is expected to appear before the Soshanguve Magistrates Court on 4 May.
