THE DEPARTMENT ISSUES STERN WARNING

The incident comes after the Department of Correctional Services (DCS) issued a stern warning to Correctional Centres in January that those who possess and smuggle contraband at its facilities would face discipline.

The department was concerned about the increasing number of cell phones and illegal substances being smuggled into Corrections Centres.

It also follows the department’s announcement that a full-scale investigation would be launched after a group of inmates allegedly became unruly and barricaded a sectional gate at the Boksburg Correctional Centre during a mandatory search by the department’s national task team.
