The South African Police Service (SAPS) arrested a bus full of 15 illegal foreigners in Ventersburg in the Free State on Monday, 20 March 2023.

THE POLICE K9 UNIT ARRESTED 15 ILLEGAL FOREIGNERS

The Welkom K9 Unit members were busy with crime combatting operations in Ventersburg when they spotted a bus with a foreign number plate at a truck stop on Monday.

THE FOREIGN NATIONALS COULD NOT PRODUCE VALID PASSPORTS

Police say there were 15 illegal foreigners on the bus, and the members continued to check for the passengers’ travel documents. None of them could produce any passports or valid documents.

The illegal foreigners were all arrested for the Contravention of the Immigration Act.

THE SUSPECTS WILL BE IN COURT ON WEDNESDAY

Another suspect was arrested for obstructing the cause of justice and Crimen Injuria.

The 15 illegal foreigners will appear in the Ventersburg Magistrate Court on Wednesday, 22 March 2023. The other suspect arrested with them will appear in the same court that day.

Members of the Serious Corruption Investigation (Hawks) in Queenstown arrested a 41-year-old woman for faking that she was a qualified teacher. The suspect, Lunga Nkrumah Sivuka, was arrested on fraud charges on Monday, 20 March 2023.

It was later established that Sivuka did not pass his final examination. Sivuka was arrested on 20 March 2023 and is out on R5 000 bail. The matter is remanded to 25 April 2023 to set a trial date.
