The Jacob Zuma Foundation says that the embattled former statesman will address the nation on this weekend, either Saturday or Sunday 4 July, the last day he has to surrender himself to the police as per Constitutional Court ruling. By the looks of things, the address is likely to be on Sunday.

This week, Jacob Zuma was found guilty of contempt of court for refusing to appear before the Zondo Commission. Then Acting Chief Justice, Sisi Khampepe sentenced the 79-year-old to 15 months in prison and he was also ordered to surrender himself to the Nkandla or Johannesburg central police station within 5 days (which end Sunday, 4 July).

WATCH: CROWDS GATHER IN NKANDLA TO SUPPORT JACOB ZUMA

Ever since the ruling, hundreds of Msholozi’s supporters made their way to Nkandla and many more arrived today ahead of Zuma’s D-Day.

Videos circulating on social media show masses chanting struggle songs (both men and women), men preparing their spears and shields and some carrying placards and wearing T-shirts written #HandsOffZuma. The MKMVA has also deployed its soldiers to guard and protect JZ.

These gatherings have sparked a security concern and have flouted level 4 lockdown regulations because gatherings are banned (social, political and religious).

On Friday, MKMVA held a press briefing in Nkandla and its spokesperson, Carl Niehaus said there would be unrest in the country should the former president be taken to jail. He was speaking during a media briefing by the uMkhonto we Sizwe Military Veterans Association (MKMVA).

“We have warned that if President Zuma is going to be imprisoned that there will be instability and unrest in SA. If President Zuma continues to be targeted and sent to prison, our country will be torn apart and violence will be inevitable because of this. We have warned that the consequences of imprisoning Zuma will be dire for our nation.”
