Community members clean up the Klein Jukskei

The Klein Jukskei Green Belt Initiative (KJGBI) team and members of the community got together earlier this month to clean up the river.

KJGBI team member, Cameron McGregor, said that the aim of the clean-up was to ensure that the Klein Jukskei would be clean, safe and accessible for all.

The clean-up, sponsored by local companies, took place on 2 April under the guidance of the KJGBI team and assisted by the Douglasdale SAPS. Neighbourhood companies sponsored water for the helpers and fuel for the grass cutters, proving that when a community comes together, so much can be accomplished.

Alien tree and plant species were removed, and rubbish was cleared all along the section of river between Witkoppen Road and Malibongwe Drive.

McGregor is appealing to all community residents and companies around Jukskei Park, Olivedale, Douglasdale, Meadowhurst and Bryanston, to join the clean-ups that happen on the first Saturday of every month.
