British Airways customers who have been impacted by the suspension of Comair services have been given a lifeline. BA customers have the option to rebook with Airlink –  at no additional cost. This is, however, subject to availability.

Are you a British Airways customer? Here’s how to rebook…

Impacted customers who would like to rebook can contact the British Airways International Contact Centre. This centre will assist Comair in managing incoming calls on 010 344 0130.

British Airways further arranged for any of its international customers who booked regional or domestic connecting flights to be re-accommodated on South African Airways (SAA).

What happens to Comair’s Kulula customers?

Kulula confirmed that customers who booked tickets on its sale before the flights were suspended will be refunded by the end of this week.

Comair CEO Glenn Orsmond says they understand the negative perceptions created from the sale that happened a week before the suspension.

“We understand the negative perceptions created by the kulula ticket sale even though the sale had been triggered a week earlier. Bearing in mind that Comair only receives the money once the flights are flown. We have agreed with our bankers to release the funds back to our customers and we are pleased to advise that the refund process will commence immediately,”

says Orsmond.

Some Travel Bank credits have been extended

Orsmond further explained that they have extended Travel Brank credits that were due to expire in June by one month. Comair said it would provide further information as and when it becomes available.

“Comair deeply regrets the inconvenience the suspension of flights has caused,” it said in a statement.

Comair suspension: Competition Commission keeping an eye on prices

Meanwhile, the Competition Commission in South Africa shared that it is keeping a close eye on airline ticket prices following Comair’s suspension of operations. On Tuesday, Comair grounded Kulula and British Airways’ flights.

The commission said it is concerned about Comair’s decision impacting ticket prices. It shared that it met separately with the management of major airlines such as South African Airways, Airlink, FlySafair and Lyft.

The aim is to understand how capacity could be brought to the market in order to mitigate the impact of Comair’s suspension decision. The Commission said they were pleased with the positive responses they received from the airlines they met with. Read the full story here.
