The City of Cape Town said the second phase of its plan to upgrade Kruskal Avenue, Bellville is underway. Members of the public are invited to meet with the City’s Urban Planning specialists and provide their input.

BIG PLANS FOR BELLVILLE

Kruskal Avenue is a major pedestrian thoroughfare from the Bellville train station and transport interchange into the central business district and beyond.

The second phase of the project will extend from Cross Street – south of Voortrekker Road – to Bellville Station.

“The upgrading of the hard and soft landscaping of Kruskal Avenue will act as a catalyst in the regeneration of the surrounding area.

“I urge residents to attend the open day and to provide input on the design proposals for the area,” said MayCo Member for Spatial Planning and Environment, Eddie Andrews.

Andrews said the City’s main aim is to improve the pedestrian environment in the area and create investor confidence in the Bellville CBD.

“We believe this upgrade project could change the public’s perceptions of the Bellville CBD by strategically upgrading the one gateway into the Bellville CBD along Voortrekker Road Corridor,” added the Alderman.

The second phase design details the plans for new lighting in the area, benches, paving, irrigation and public art as well as new trading bay locations and parking types.

The City completed the first phase of the Kruskal Avenue upgrade project in October 2020.

Members of the public are invited to the open day outside the Middestad Mall Entrance in Kruskal Avenue on Wednesday, 6 April.

The City’s planners will be there from 12:00 to 18:00.

Alternatively, comments or other recommendations on the design proposals can be submitted from 1 to 30 April, in the following ways:
