City of Cape Town load shedding plan for the weekend: Better, but not great

Power utility Eskom confirmed on Friday that load shedding will be reduced over the weekend, dropping to Stage 2 by Sunday.

Power utility Eskom confirmed on Friday that load shedding will be reduced over the weekend, dropping to Stage 2 by Sunday.

However, load shedding will be maintained at Stage 4 in the evenings between 16:00 and 05:00.

It will then be lowered to Stage 3 between 05:00 and 16:00 during the day before being reduced to Stage 2 on Sunday morning.

A full statement will be published on Sunday, the group said.

Eskom’s weekend schedule:

Friday, 20 January

  • Stage 4: until 00h00

Saturday, 21 January

  • Stage 4: 00h00 to 05h00
  • Stage 3: 05h00 to 16h00
  • Stage 4: 16h00 to 00h00

Sunday, 22 January

  • Stage 4: 00h00 to 05h00
  • Stage 2: 05h00 until further notice

The City of Cape Town adjusted its schedule following the Eskom announcement.

At the time of publishing, City of Cape Town customers are experiencing Stage 3 load shedding. That will end at 22:00 on Friday, after which Stage 4 will be implemented between 22:00 and 05:00 on Saturday.

Stage 2 will then be in effect from 05:00 until 16:00 on Saturday, followed by Stage 4 between 16:00 and 05:00 on Sunday.

The same daily schedule will then repeat on Sunday until Monday morning – as detailed below.
