City of Cape Town confirms load shedding plan as Eskom moves to Stage 6

Eskom delivered bad news on Friday at the start of the long weekend in SA, confirming that Stage 6 load shedding had been implemented.

Eskom delivered bad news on Friday morning at the start of the long weekend in South Africa, confirming that Stage 6 load shedding had been implemented.

In a tweet, Eskom said: “At 08:34 Stage 6 loadshedding was implemented. This was necessary due to the failure of 8 generating units overnight and the excessive reliance on OCGTs and pumped storage generation that is rapidly depleting these reserves.”

Eskom promised to give a full update in due course.

Meanwhile, the City of Cape Town has updated it’s schedule until Monday morning.

City of Cape Town customers are, at the time of publishing, on Stage 5 load shedding which will continue until 22:00 on Friday.

Stage 6 will then kick in 22:00 and continue until 05:00 on Saturday.

Saturday will see Stage 5 between 05:00 and 22:00, followed by Stage 6 from 22:00 to 05:00 on Sunday.

Sunday will see Stage 6 start at 05:00 and run until 05:00 on Monday.

Saturday, 17 December
Stage 5: 05:00 – 22:00
Stage 6: 22:00 – 05:00

Sunday, 18 December
Stage 6: 05:00 – 05:00
