City of Cape Town confirms load shedding schedule for Saturday, 1 October

Electricity customers of the City of Cape Town will enjoy a significantly better Saturday in terms of load shedding compared to Eskom’s plan.

Power utility Eskom announced on Thursday that Stage 4 load shedding will continue until Saturday, 1 October, with Stage 3 continuing thereafter.

Stage 4 load shedding will be in effect until 05:00 on Saturday, after which Stage 3 load shedding will continue until 05:00 on Monday, 3 October.

Eskom confirmed it will publish a further update on Sunday afternoon – or as soon as there are any significant changes.

“Diesel deliveries have started at PetroSA’s facility in Mossel Bay, with the vessel having berthed this morning. Transferring the fuel to the Gourikwa and Akerlig Open Cycle Gas Turbine stations will take place throughout the weekend to replenish by Monday.

“Eskom will also use the weekend to replenish the dam levels at the pumped storage schemes, which have been utilised extensively to complement generation capacity,” it said.

The grid currently has 5 206MW on planned maintenance, while another 15 862MW of capacity is unavailable due to breakdowns.

Meanwhile, those who receive their electricity from the City of Cape Town will enjoy some relief after it confirmed its plan for the coming days.

While Eskom customers will be on Stages 3 and 4, City of Cape Town residents will ‘only’ suffer Stage 1 and 2 power cuts for the vast majority of Saturday (07:00 to 22:00).
