Sun said City Power technicians received reports of a multi-day power outage in the Bloubosrand area affecting several houses and dispatched a team to repair the fault.

Sun said to repair the fault and restore electricity to the affected homes, power needed to be temporarily cut to a wider area so the technicians could work on the faults.

“Whilst the residents were working,  a resident approached one technician and threatened him with violence should the team continue with their work. The resident went on to attack the technician and pointed a  cocked pistol to the technician’s head to force him to stop working.”

City Power spokesperson, Isaac Mangena said Twala then slapped him and choked him, pinning him to the ground. The community intervened and rescued the team and they left without doing the repairs. Police reportedly confiscated two toy guns.

According to reports, Twala did have power in his house but did not want the technicians to work on the faults affecting other residents in the area.

“City Power technicians are constantly exposed to dangers to keep the lights on in Johannesburg. A gun toting mad man threatening anybody in the course of their duties is entirely unacceptable and must be dealt with the full might of the law,” Sun said.

In a statement circulated on social media, the 59-year-old said that his arrest is a “victory” for him and a “defeat” for the “evil” people who have linked him to Meyiwa’s murder.

“Finally I got arrested for pointing a toy gun [at] two men whom I thought were cable thieves who caused a blackout to six houses at my recording studios,” Twala said
