‘This is WORSE than Stage 2 load shedding’ – Eskom lying, claims expert

Ted Blom is highly suspicious of Eskom this week, and he claims this current round of load shedding is ‘much worse’ than Stage 2.

When the lights go out, who are you gonna call? Ted Blom has become a leading critical voice on the mess that continues to plague Eskom, and his latest claims about Stage 2 load shedding will certainly turn a few heads.

Is load shedding worse than Stage 2 right now?

According to Blom, the utility has been lying about the severity of the load shedding programme, which is in place until Thursday morning. Rolling blackouts returned to Mzansi before the weekend, and the public was told that they will be operating on a Stage 2 schedule. However, the veteran energy analyst doubts this is true.

Taking to Twitter on Wednesday, Blom engaged with the public, and accused Eskom of being ‘sparse with the truth’:

“Seems to me that Eskom is ducking and diving again, and being sparse with the truth. The fact is, their shortfall is far larger than Stage 2 load shedding – but they are not being honest again.” | Ted Blom

Load shedding schedules ‘not adding up’

Claims from the public about suffering extended periods of load shedding have been widespread in the past few days, stoking suspicions about just how much power is actually being taken off the grid. Many suburbs in Johannesburg have been experiencing blackouts way worse than a Stage 2 phase, and the complaints have been flooding in:

Blom also painted a bleak picture for the week ahead. He believes that Eskom is losing power faster than it can conduct repairs, meaning that outages are likely to be extended. Indeed, the electricity specialist now fears the situation has degenerated over the last seven days – and load shedding ‘will soon enter its second week’…

“NERSA is getting reports of extended blackouts, plus transformer damage, occurring faster than repairs. The situation is worse than last week, when load shedding was introduced. I expect it to continue for the next week.”
