A 55-year-old caregiver has been sentenced to life in prison for raping a 21-year-old mentally challenged man in Krugersdorp.

THE MAN REPORTEDLY TOLD HIS NEIGHBOUR

According to police spokesperson Colonel Dimakatso Sello, the woman raped and sexually assaulted the 21-year-old in his home while she was his caregiver.

“The woman was hired to be a caregiver to the victim. She raped the victim and sexually assaulted him while the parents were not home. The matter was reported by a neighbour after the victim told him about his ordeal,” said Sello.

WHAT WAS THE SENTENCE THAT WAS HANDED DOWN?

The woman received life in prison for the rape and six years for sexual assault.

Meanwhile, on Thursday, 25 November 2021, the Grahamstown High Court sentenced a 57-year-old man to a double life sentence, one life imprisonment for murder and one life imprisonment for rape.

THE WOMAN’S BODY WAS FOUND COVERED WITH BLANKETS

Police said this followed the brutal murder and rape of a 66-year-old woman from the Nomzamo locality in Mlungisi, who was found murdered in her homestead on 23 November 2020.

“On the mentioned date, the deceased was with the accused and other friends at her homestead. The following morning, witnesses noticed that the door was still closed and locked from the outside. On further investigation, they found the deceased female on the floor and covered with blankets,” police said.
