Kidnapped outside family business: Cape Town woman rescued

Five suspects were arrested when the 31-year-old Welgemoed woman was rescued from a house in Mfuleni on Tuesday.

A woman from Welgemoed, Cape Town, was kidnapped outside her family business in Parow Industria, on Friday, 2 June. Her vehicle was later found abandoned in Gugulethu.

Brigadier Novela Potelwa said the 31-year-old woman’s vehicle was discovered in NY 99, Gugulethu after she failed to return home.

On Tuesday, 5 June, a police task team consisting of  Provincial Organised Crime investigators,  Crime Intelligence, Hawks, Special Task Force members, hostage negotiators, the City of Cape Town and the Provincial CSI team, rescued the victim from a house in Mfuleni.

VICTIM REUNITED WITH FAMILY

Potelwa said the task team had been pursuing leads since the kidnapping was reported. The woman underwent a medical examination to assess her health on Tuesday and has been reunited with her family.

Five suspects – aged between 25 and 32 – were arrested. They are expected to appear in court on charges of kidnapping, hijacking, human trafficking and extortion.
