A Cape Town man is accused of murdering, dismembering and then dumping his wife’s body parts across various parts of Khayelitsha. The man was arrested recently and appeared in court on Friday but faces a long wait for a psychiatric evaluation.

Goodman Nobade appeared in the Western Cape High Court well dressed for his pre-trial conference. He faces charges of murder, assault with intent to inflict grievous bodily harm, as well as obstructing the course of justice.

Nobade is accused of dismembering Agnes Msiza, his wife according to customary law. It is also believed that he abused her on multiple occasions before the murder.

Prosecutor Megan Blows told the court and Judge Mark Sher that there is currently an extremely lengthy waiting period for assessments at Valkenberg Psychiatric hospital. Currently, Nobade is detained at Pollsmoor Prison.

Sher postponed the matter to 12 October in order to allow Valkenberg time to assess the accused. He will remain in Pollsmoor until court resumes.

How is Goodman Nobade accused of killing his wife?

After murdering Msiza, it is not entirely clear how Nobade went about dismembering his wife. Police are even unsure of how she was killed. So far, police have only been able to find Msiza’s head and upper leg.

In September 2016, Msiza applied for an interim protection order against her husband. He refused to sign it.

So what does the state say?

According to the prosecution team, Nobade attempted to cover up the murder by cleaning the crime scene and “getting rid” of his wife’s body parts. His downfall may have come when he gave multiple people different versions of his wife’s disappearance
